Electronic Filing Information for the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court uses the TrueFiling system for the electronic filing of court documents. Please review the requirements below.

E-Filing with the Supreme Court

Pursuant to California Rules of Court, Rules 8.70-8.79 and California Supreme Court Rules Regarding Electronic Filing, the court accepts documents filed electronically through the court's electronic filing system (TrueFiling).  Electronic filing is the filing of an electronic document in lieu of a paper original.  Official court correspondence and notifications, including letters and orders, will be sent to all parties via regular mail only.

Self-represented litigants may, but are not required to, register for electronic filing. Self-represented litigants must comply with the California Supreme Court Rules Regarding Electronic Filing and the requirements of TrueFiling if they elect to register.

Notice: Pursuant to rule 2 of the California Supreme Court Rules Regarding Electronic Filing, as of March 18, 2020 and until further notice, counsel must file all documents, including merits briefs, electronically though the TrueFiling system.   Self-represented litigants and trial courts remain exempt from mandatory electronic filing, and any party may file a motion requesting an exception from mandatory electronic filing.
