Chief Justice Directs State Bar to Update Board’s Conflict of Interest Code

By Merrill Balassone April 19, 2023

Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero on Wednesday directed the State Bar of California to expedite updates to the conflict of interest code governing members of the Board of Trustees.

The State Bar must submit updates to Chief Justice Guerrero for approval no later than August 1. The letter was sent to State Bar Director Leah Wilson with the support of all California Supreme Court justices.

In addition, Chief Justice Guerrero directed the State Bar to develop policies on when and how often trustees should be trained on ethics and conflicts of interest.

The letter also reminded the State Bar of its requirement to report to the Chief Justice every two years about any updates made to the board’s conflict of interest code.
